ABOUT THIS TOUR

See picturesque frozen waterfalls in Korouoma National Park and join us for a guided hike through wintery Finnish landscapes.

If you ever wanted to visit a frozen kingdom, this is your time! The Korouoma National Park looks beautiful in winter, and it's a perfect place to relax, recharge, and reset.

We will start our winter hike with a hotel pick up. Korouoma National Park is located in the municipality of Posio, and it spreads for 30 km. This long valley is a popular location for hikers year round, but in winter, it has an even bigger appeal. In addition to the snowglobe-like scenery, there are massive frozen waterfalls that will make you feel like you are in a fairytale.

The hike is moderate, but you will need to dress up in warm clothes, sturdy shoes and to be prepared for a unique experience. Don't forget to bring your camera, because Korouoma Canyon in winter looks like it's out of this world. The hike is 2-5 km long, and we will follow the official park trail. In the middle of our journey we will stop to rest at the camp. We will show you real Finnish survival skills including how to make fire in the snow, chop firewood, and light up fire for lunch! We will have some tea and lunch, before we continue to the finish line. Please note, that this tour is not suitable for young children.

Recommended age 10+ years old.

The tour includes walking for extended periods, sometimes over uneven terrain. While we believe this contributes to a more immersive and rewarding experience, it is important to consider your personal comfort and physical capabilities.

If you have any ongoing health conditions, mobility issues, or recent injuries that could affect your ability to walk comfortably for at least a few miles, we would strongly recommend you to reconsider your participation or consult with your healthcare provider prior to joining the tour.

Frequently asked questions

(See all questions and answers here)
Q:

- When is a booking for a tour with Nordic Adventures confirmed?

A:

A booking is confirmed when you receive a confirmation email. If you think you have made a booking and have not received an email confirmation, please send us an e-mail with an inquiry through our contact form, and we will figure this out together.

Q:

- How do i pay for a tour with Nordic Adventures?

A:

You can pay through the internet, through our website. This is by far the easiest, safest and fastest way to reserve and pay for your adventure. You will receive a voucher as a confirmation via e-mail which you will need to bring with you for your trip. You will always get a voucher by email: REMEMBER TO PRINT IT OUT AND BRING IT ALONG OR MAKE SURE THAT YOU CAN SHOW IT ON YOUR ELECTRONIC DEVICE!

Q:

- Do i have to book in advance?

A:

There are a few different ways you can book our trips. First of all, you can book almost all our trips right here on our website. There is a booking window on each tour page and we do recommend that you book and pay for your trip there, preferably in good time as we keep our groups small and some tours tend to sell out.

If the trip you would like to book is not bookable online, you can call or email our office directly, the phone number is +358 40 744 2567. Another way is to send us an e-mail with an inquiry through our contact form. What we need to have is your name, how many people are in your party, where you are staying, a way of contacting you either an e-mail or a phone number and what tour you are trying to book.

Q:

- How is it best to be ready for a pick-up for a tour with Nordic Adventures?

A:

This is a nice question. We ask all participants to be ready from the start of the pickup time indicated in the voucher. Please be at your assigned location at the start time that you chose when booking the tour.

Here you should wait for your guide. Have your email and phone number listed with us so we can contact you if we run into any trouble finding you.

Q:

- How to dress right and feel comfortable in Winter?

A:

1. Start with thermal underwear and warm socks.

2. If it’s really cold, –20 or below, wear an additional fleece layer on top of your thermals. Another pair of socks, preferably woolly or thermal, will keep your feet warm.

3. Wear pants with thermal lining. Don’t underestimate the importance of a neck warmer or a scarf. Slip into your winter boots and do them up well.

4. Almost done! Throw on your winter jacket, put on a warm hat and thermal gloves. Don’t forget to tuck your gloves into your sleeves and zip your jacket ALL the way up

Nordic Adventures is happy to tell you where you can rent costumes if there is such a need!

Q:

- Do you provide transportation to your adventures?

A:

Most of our tours (please see specifications under each tour) include transfers from accommodation in Rovaniemi city area. It is included in the adventure price.

The pick up is usually 5-20 min before the start of the safari (time in your voucher). Transportation back is immediately after the end of the safari.

We try to provide exact pickup time one day before the start of the tour by email or text message/whats-app, which is why it is important that you provide your valid email and phone number when booking a tour.

We had a great tour to the frozen falls with Alex. Fortunately it was just us for that day so we actually had a private tour! Alex was great and professional! The falls and the trail is wonderful and special. We sure recommend to visit there in small group such as Nordic Adventures offer. Thank you Alex for a wonderful day in the nature!

WOW!! Frozen Waterfalls, Mother Nature at its Best

What a Beautiful landscape, to see frozen waterfalls was breath taking. We took the small tour 2km, as I took my 2 children (11- boy & 14 -girl) They really enjoyed it, but the 11 yr old towards the end got bored, and cold. We also had a break after seeing the 3rd and final waterfall, where we chopped wood, & made a camp fire, so we could BBQ sausages for lunch with a hot chocolate, and Marshmallows. Marshmallows went down well with the children. There is some steep track, but has some rope to hold on too. if you step of the beaten track the snow can be deep, and slippy, so do this with caution.
The guide pick us up from our hotel , and dropped us back, He was pleasant, but quite happy to answer question, but didn't really engage in general conversation.
My Only Tip is make sure you use the toilet at the petrol station stop, as in the forest you have to use a dry hole.
The trip from the Rovaniemi is just over an hour, you are hiking for about an hour and half, and stop for lunch for about an hour. Total time for the trip is about 5 hrs.

Stunning waterfalls

This was a great way to see a very unique landscape, three spectacular frozen waterfalls. Our guide picked us up form our hotel and drove us the hour to Korouoma. A walk down a well marked path brought us into the canyon. We followed the partially frozen stream through some very pretty scenery. The three waterfalls were each quite different to the other and all equally spectacular. Some of the track was quite steep but there were good rope hand holds in those areas.
After the second waterfalll our guides directed us towards the third and final waterfall whilst he went back to the bottom of the track into the canyon to get a fire started for our simple lunch snack.
Lunch was a hot drink, sausage on the BBQ and ginger cookies.
We then had the long steep climb out of the canyon back to the car.
We were there in early December and the waterfalls were not completely frozen, I imagine later in the winter they would be even more amazing.
Our guide was a very quiet person, happy to answer questions but not forthcoming with information if not asked.

Frozen waterfalls adventure in Korouoma National Park and Reindeer Farm

December 3, 2018

We went to Korouoma National Park to see the frozen waterfalls. It was 5km hiking ( if you are not used hiking, i would recommend the smaller tour) but it was worth it!
The views are very beautiful, you are really walking into a winter wonderland.
We also visited the reindeer farm with Alex and it was just lovely!
Alex is very kind, he tells you stories about the farmers, the animals, ... with a cup of coffee.
And then of course you have the reindeers. You can feed them, take pictures, a small ride in the forest.. one word AMAZING! Don't hesitate, just do it!
